An Incredible Legacy of Wine Making in Napa Valley

Castello Di Amorosa is a destination on the map that comes with a legacy in place dating back to 1885 when Vittorio Sattui, an Italian immigrant to California, founded St. Helena Wine Cellars. Sattui and his family lived at the winery, even through the financial difficulties of Prohibition. Generations later, Dario Sattui, Vittorio’s great grandson, was part of a continuing tradition of family winemaking. This fourth generation wine maker had spent his childhood fascinated by old photos and stories of the original family winery and often dreamed of bringing it back to its former glory.

A Modern Day Marvel

Eventually, vision would become reality when Dario committed to building an authentically styled 14th century Tuscan castle winery designed to honor his family and Italian heritage. After more than 8,000 tons of hand-chiseled stone and a million antique bricks imported from Europe were firmly in place, the winery that would come to be known as Castello Di Amorosa was complete following 15 years of work. Castello Di Amorosa opened to the public in April of 2007 and today, remains one of the most fascinating wineries in Napa Valley featuring five towers, a moat, a drawbridge, defensive ramparts, lush courtyards to explore, a chapel, stables, an armory, and much more. The castle houses 107 rooms as well as world-class wine cellars on-site, and elegant tasting rooms too.
